Kati Kovács, an outstanding figure of the Hungarian popular music scene, is celebrating the 60th anniversary of her career in 2025 and will give a lifetime achievement concert on 13 June 2025 in the MVM Dome. In honour of her work, Magyar Posta is issuing a thematic personalised stamp. Five thousand copies of the sheet of stamps with labels have been produced and will be available for sale at Filaposta and Magyar Posta’s online store from 27 May 2025 while stocks last. Kati Kovács, Kossuth- and Liszt Ferenc Award-winning Hungarian singer, songwriter and actress, who is one of the most well-known and versatile figures in Hungarian popular music, has shone on stage for six decades and her iconic songs have been a defining part of the lives of people of several generations. She grew up in Eger and began singing when she was at secondary school, first with the school’s amateur band and later moved into jazz and rock as well. On 13 June 1965 she won the seminal Hungarian television talent show “Ki mit tud?”. Her first hit was “I Should Stop Now”. She then went on to become the first ever winner of the Dance Song Festival with “I Won’t Be Your Plaything” in 1966, and later won the festival twice more, three times in all, which made her the only female performer to achieve this. The singer has given her audiences many unforgettable songs. Perennial classics such as “When I See You Next”, “Meeting an Old Flame” and the emotional “I’d Like to Thank You So Much” are all part of her musical legacy. Her extraordinary voice is further enriched by the fact that she has also performed legendary compositions by Vangelis in Hungarian. Kati Kovács is celebrating the 60th anniversary of her career with her first arena concert, where she will perform the very best of her rich and successful oeuvre. In the course of her career, she has released more than 116 solo albums in Hungary and 25 abroad. She holds the record for the most solo albums released by a Hungarian artist. Her musical styles span rock, pop, jazz, blues, gospel, opera and funk, and she has worked with renowned bands such as Illés, Omega, Metro, Hungária and LGT. Alongside her musical career, Kati Kovács has also been active as an actress appearing in more than 20 films and stage productions, and her name is also associated with numerous film soundtracks. She has also had a significant career as a songwriter, having written over 50 songs for herself.
