Magyar Posta is continuing its series on castles and palaces, launched in 2018, by presenting another eight Hungarian castles in 2021. Twenty thousand copies of the miniature sheet, which was designed by the graphic artist Eszter Domé, were produced by ANY Security Printing Company. The new issue will go on sale on 2 September 2021 and be available in first day post offices and at Filaposta in Hungary from the date of issue, but may also be ordered from Magyar Posta’s online store. The National Heritage Protection and Development Non-Profit Agency was established to carry out national cultural heritage protection tasks. Its aim is to ensure the sustainable utilisation of historic buildings and monuments, and to participate in their development and renovation. It is also charged with providing attractive contents for visitors at the historic sites. As an active participant in protecting Hungarian built heritage, it operates over 30 buildings enjoying monument protection, while its portfolio covers priority state investments in addition to developments aimed at preserving the country’s built heritage. The Agency coordinates the developments of the National Palace Programme and the National Castle Programme, whose aim is not only the interior and exterior renovation of buildings in the spirit of preserving cultural heritage but also to bring them to life with varied programmes and events. Eight castles included in the programme are presented in this issue of the series. The castles on the new miniature sheet are shown in the following order: Diósgyőr Castle (Miskolc); Sümeg Castle; Szádvár Castle (Szögliget); Kisvárda Castle; Sopron city wall and the related museum quarter; Mosonmagyaróvár Castle; Somló Castle (Doba) and Füzér Castle. The background of the miniature sheet is composed of a montage of the exteriors, interiors and façades of the castles. Details of Somló Castle appear on the first day cover and in the postmark.
