Soproni Szemle is the cultural history periodical of the Sopron City Embellishment Association, which - since its establishment in 1937 - has been continuously publishing recent research developments on the historical county of Sopron and the broadly defined Western Transdanubian region, as well as historical, ethnographic, archaeological, and scientific historical overviews on the constructed, materialistic and intellectual heritage of the region. The studies in the various issues are organized into main thematic groups. Our workshop column includes shorter articles and reports on recent issues, the Personalities of Sopron column presents the definitive individuals of the distant and recent past and present of the city, whilst the Sopron bookshelf reviews bring attention to recently published volumes of regional interest. We emphasize the major anniversaries of the city, including the relocation of Sopron's German community (1946) or credible accounts of the 1956 revolution.
