100th anniversary of est ablishing consular relations between Hungary and Egypt FDC
Magyar Posta and Egypt Post are jointly issuing a commemorative souvenir sheet to mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of consular relations between the two countries. Forty thousand copies of the souvenir sheet designed by the graphic designers Katalin Bódi and Mr Mina Safwat were produced by the banknote printing company Pénzjegynyomda. The new issue goes on sale at Filaposta, philately specialist services, certain post offices and www.posta.hu from 28 November 2024. The establishment of independent and modern Hungarian diplomacy became possible following the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in 1918 and the consolidation of Hungary after 1920. Relations between Egypt and Hungary date back a long time, to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After the signing of the Treaty of Trianon on 4 June 1920 and Hungary gaining independence, consular relations with Egypt were established in 1924 and diplomatic relations in 1927. Diplomatic relations were severed in 1941 due to the Second World War. Relations were restored in 1947 and raised to ambassadorial status in 1957. Over the course of these 100 years, diplomatic relations between the two countries have been renewed on several occasions. Hungarian-Egyptian relations have traditionally had a broad scope, mutually fostering good interstate ties. The essential conventional frameworks for cooperation were established conforming with the requirements arising from Hungary’s membership of the European Union. Regular consultations are held between the foreign ministries of the two countries. Source: Mediterranean World 49, Hungarian-Egyptian Friendship Society. The central element of the commemorative souvenir sheet is the centenary logo with the Hungarian and Egyptian national ribbons as the compositional elements. The frame of the souvenir sheet features Hungarian and Egyptian cultural elements. A graphic composition of schematic elements referring to diplomacy appears on the first day cover and on the imprint of the postmark on the cover.
