24th Winter Olympic Games, Beijing FDC
Magyar Posta is honouring the most important 2022 winter event in the world of sport, the 24th Winter Olympic Games, with a stamp issue. The numbered commemorative souvenir sheet designed by the graphic artist Orsolya Kara was produced in perforated and imperforated editions by ANY Security Printing Company. The new issue will be released on 4 February 2022. It will be on sale at first day post offices and Filaposta in Hungary and may also be ordered from Magyar Posta’s online store from the date of issue. The first Winter Olympics were held in 1924 in Chamonix, France. A characteristic of the Winter Olympic Games is that successfully staging the events is far more dependent on weather and geographical factors than in the case of the Summer Olympics. The 24th Winter Olympic Games will be held between 4 and 20 February 2022 in Beijing, China. The host city was selected by the International Olympic Committee at the 128th IOC Session on 31 July 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In the frame of the souvenir sheet the minimalist depictions of winter sports athletes are shown and the Magyarock logo appears on the stamp. The design of the accompanying special first day cover matches the style of the souvenir sheet, while the Magyarock logo is repeated in colour on the cover and in black and white in the postmark. Magyarock is the brand of the Hungarian Olympic Team and, in a broader sense, the symbol of the Hungarian community of athletes and supporters in the spirit of the three values of Olympism: excellence, friendship and respect.
