94th Stamp Day set FDC
Magyar Posta is issuing a set of two special stamps with different denominations and a numbered souvenir sheet with a surcharge to mark the 94th Stamp Day, which will be held as a joint event with the HUNFILA 2021 BUDAPEST National Stamp Exhibition at the Budapest headquarters of the National Federation of Hungarian Philatelists between 28 and 30 May 2021. The new issues designed by the graphic artist György Kara were produced by ANY Security Printing Company, and will be available at first day post offices and Filaposta in Hungary from 28 May 2021 but may also be ordered from Magyar Posta’s online store. Magyar Posta devotes the HUF 300 surcharge on each souvenir sheet to supporting organised stamp collecting in Hungary. The design of the stamp of the souvenir sheet marking the 94th Stamp Day shows the building, 50 years old in 2021, that houses the headquarters of the National Federation of Hungarian Philatelists. The graphics in the frame are composed of interior photographs supplemented by features referring to stamps, philately exhibitions and stamp collecting. The set is of truly special philatelic value: a stamp on a stamp on a stamp on a stamp. The two new stamps show two stamps of different values of the series issued for the POLSKA ’73 International Stamp Exhibition on which the two stamps of the souvenir sheet issued for Stamp Day in 1971 (50 years ago in 2021) appear. On the latter, the HUF 2 stamp of the series Folk Costumes (I) issued in 1953 and the HUF 2 stamp of the series Aircraft (VI) issued in 1958 are featured. Other photos of the headquarters of the National Federation of Hungarian Philatelists appear on the first day cover of the souvenir sheet and, on that of the set, the Folk Costumes and Aircraft stamps under a magnifying glass can be seen. The special postmark used the Hungarian inscription for “94th Stamp Day”.
