99th Stamp Day pair FDC
Magyar Posta is issuing a pair of special stamps with different denominations and a numbered souvenir sheet with a surcharge to celebrate the 99th Stamp Day, which will be held at the headquarters of the National Federation of Hungarian Philatelists in Budapest between 8 and 11 October 2026. The new products were designed by the graphic artist Barnabás Baticz and printed by the banknote printing company ANY Biztonsági Nyomda, and can be purchased from Filaposta, philately specialist services, certain post offices and www.posta.hu from 8 October 2026. Magyar Posta devotes the HUF 300 surcharge on each souvenir sheet to supporting organised stamp collecting in Hungary. In keeping with its traditions, Magyar Posta is marking the most important annual event in Hungarian philately, Stamp Day, being held for the 99th time, by issuing a special pair of stamps and a special souvenir sheet. The occasion is linked to the 22nd TEMAFILA National Thematic Stamp Exhibition, which is the most prestigious national gathering for motif and thematic collectors. The pair of special stamps with different denominations issued in honour of the 99th Stamp Day features the Pengő-Fillér series, which entered into circulation in 1926, and the Newspaper Stamp, issued in 1900. The stamp design and frame of the souvenir sheet with a surcharge feature the 1926 Narrow Madonna series. All three themes are well-known and popular elements of Hungarian philately. An interesting aspect of this release is that not only the stamps originally issued but also their proofs from the Stamp Museum’s collection appear on the new stamps. The motif linking the souvenir sheet and the pair of stamps is the Holy Crown, which is portrayed in the design of all three stamps. The covers accompanying the souvenir sheet and the pair of stamps show the front page of an imaginary newspaper, one edition of which is the number 99, whilst another draws attention to next year’s 100th Stamp Day. The postmark on the first day cover is a stylised rendition of the number 99, a graphic element that is repeated in the stamp designs.
