1125 HUF

ITEM NO: 2023090060012

Magyar Posta is marking the two railway history anniversaries of 2023 with the issue of a commemorative miniature sheet. The first Hungarian steam locomotive was produced 150 years ago and the first electric locomotive entered service in Hungary 100 years ago. Magyar Posta devotes the proceeds of the surcharge on two stamps of the miniature sheet totalling HUF 150 to supporting youth stamp collecting. Ten thousand copies of the commemorative miniature sheet of four stamps designed by the graphic artist Imre Benedek were produced by the printing company Pénzjegynyomda Zrt. The new issue will be available at first day post offices and Filaposta in Hungary from 4 April 2023, but may also be ordered from Magyar Posta’s online store. The first freight locomotives of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) were the Hatvan type, Class III b engines (later called series 355), which had been acquired by the predecessor of the Hungarian Royal State Railways, the Hungarian Northern Railway (MÉV), and MÁV ordered more of them. The production of steam locomotives in Hungary began in 1873. The first standard gauge main line steam locomotive in Hungary was Class III locomotive number 108, built under an Austrian licence in 1873, which was later renumbered and from 1911 was given the MÁV number 335,001. The MÁV V50 series was an experimental electric locomotive delivered to the Hungarian State Railways. Kálmán Kandó deserves credit for and was ahead of his time in managing to overcome the disadvantages of this system while retaining its advantages. The result of this development was the locomotive with the serial number V50 and the fact that a 50 Hz traction system was first implemented in Hungary. Source: hu.wikipedia.org The stamps and frame of the commemorative miniature sheet show the locomotives with anniversaries. A drawing of the design for the conversions of the prototype of the MÁV V50 series appears on the first day cover. The imprint of the special postmark on the first day cover is a stylised drawing of a wheel of the electric locomotive.
