Magyar Posta is continuing its series presenting Hungarian rock classics with the band Locomotiv GT, celebrating the 50th anniversary of its foundation in 2021. Fifty thousand copies of the black numbered perforated souvenir sheets and 4,000 copies of the red numbered imperforated souvenir sheets designed by the graphic artist Tibor Z. Petényi were produced by ANY Security Printing Company. The new sheets will be released on 5 July 2021. The new issues are available from Filaposta, philately specialist services, certain post offices and www.posta.hu. Locomotiv GT (abbreviated as LGT, and known by its fans as Loksi) is one of Hungarian rock music’s most influential bands. In the name of the band, the letters GT stand for Gran Turismo, a reference to the long way ahead of the members and the locomotive type. Officially, the band was established on 6 April 1971 by Tamás Barta, Károly Frenreisz, Gábor Presser and József Laux. By that time the founders were well-known musicians with successful careers. Their first album came out in December 1971. After 1977, their albums were made by and they appeared on stage with the same line-up: János Karácsony (vocals, guitar), Gábor Presser (vocals, keyboard instruments), János Solti (drums, percussion instruments) and Tamás Somló (vocals, bass guitar, saxophone, mouth organ). On 19 July 2016 Tamás Somló died after a long, serious illness. On 4 September, János Karácsony, Gábor Presser and János Solti officially announced that L.G.T. would no longer be working together. The stamp shows a famous song from the group’s fourth album released in 1975, “Writing This Song For You” (“Neked írom a dalt”). For decades this song has been a symbol of how the band and its audience belong together, the love and respect shown towards each other. The souvenir sheets, the first day cover and the postmark each have Locomotiv GT’s iconic logo as their main motif. In the graphic composition of the souvenir sheet with the effect of a creased sheet of paper, highlighting with a red marker pen draws attention to the band’s logo shown in the stamp. In the lower part of the frame of the souvenir sheet, the lyrics of the above song can be read.
