Magyar Posta is marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of the paediatrician Prof. Dr Pál Heim by issuing a commemorative stamp. Forty thousand copies of the stamp designed by the graphic artist Gábor Dinya were produced by ANY Security Printing Company, and can be purchased at Filaposta in Hungary, philately specialist services, certain post offices and www.posta.hu from 28 November 2025. Prof. Dr Pál Heim (1875–1929) was a pioneer of modern Hungarian paediatrics and was the founder of children’s health and childcare training for women in Hungary. His entire life was devoted to healing children and improving child care and his work continues to serve as an example for the health community to this day. Heim became familiar with modern medical approaches while studying abroad and put his knowledge into practice in Hungarian healthcare upon his return. His name is associated with numerous medical treatments and diagnoses (e.g. for tuberculosis), the introduction of the principles of infant feeding and saline rehydration, pioneering work aimed at reducing infant mortality, and the first school for paediatric nurses. The “Heim sisters” cared for generations of children, and nurses today continue to foster this approach to paediatric care. The “Heim Pál 150” commemorative year pays tribute to his legacy through scientific, cultural, and medical programmes. Its aim is to present the professional and human values and legacy of Professor Dr Pál Heim in a fitting manner and to strengthen the commitment to paediatrics. Commemorative events in the anniversary year include a national drawing competition entitled “Me and my Kind Doctor”, a conference on “Healing Legacy”, the unveiling of his bust at the Heim Pál National Paediatric Institute and Semmelweis University, a wreath-laying ceremony at his grave, and a closing gala concert in the Grand Hall of the Academy of Music. The commemorative stamp features Prof. Dr Pál Heim holding his grandson Oszkár. The commemorative cover shows the number 150 framing the professor on one side and Rózsa Szabó, Heim nurse, holding a child in her arms in the centre. The postmark on the first day cover bears the Hungarian inscription meaning “Healing Legacy” and a graphic composition of a nurse embracing a child in honour of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the distinguished paediatrician.
