490 HUF

ITEM NO: 2019120060112

The two new stamps in Magyar Posta’s series on the subject of Regions and Towns in 2019 feature Mátészalka and Kapuvár, both celebrating their 50th anniversary of becoming a town. As well as showing some main sights, the composition of the stamps allows the position of the towns to be indicated on the map of Hungary. One hundred and twenty thousand copies of the stamps designed by the graphic artist Imre Benedek were produced by ANY Security Printing Company. The new issues are available from Filaposta, philately specialist services, certain post offices and www.posta.hu. The stamp of Kapuvár shows the bronze statue “The Bread Cutter” by Pál Pátzay in the centre of the town with the church of Saint Anne in the background. The first day cover depicts the former Esterházy Palace, which functions as the Town Hall today. In addition to the mayor’s office and the district office, the building also houses the Rábaközi Museum. The stamp of Mátészalka depicts the Szentpétery Zsigmond Cultural Centre and Theatre with the Fountain of the Seven Chieftains by Lajos Bíró in the foreground. The first day cover also employs a work by the same sculptor, Boy Holding an Oil Lamp. The graphics of the special postmarks used the coats of arms of the towns.
