Regions and Towns IV - Nagyatád FDC
Magyar Posta is continuing its stamp series presenting Regions and Towns in 2021. One of the four stamps issued this year depicts Győr, celebrating the 750th anniversary of being granted town status, and the other three feature Balatonfüred, Csorna and Nagyatád, marking the 50th anniversary of them becoming a town. As well as showing some main sights, the graphic composition of the stamps – in keeping with the stamps issued in the series to date – allows the position of the towns to be indicated on the map of Hungary. Fifty thousand copies of the stamps of the series designed by the graphic artist Imre Benedek were produced by ANY Security Printing Company. The new issues are available from Filaposta, philately specialist services, certain post offices and www.posta.hu. Balatonfüred is located in Veszprém county. The “capital of the northern shore of Lake Balaton”, the lake’s oldest holiday resort, is an important marina for sailboats. The stamp features the Round Church, while a bird’s-eye view of the town appears on the first day cover. Csorna is in Győr-Moson-Sopron county. Archaeological remains show that the area of the town has been inhabited since pre-historic times. The stamp features the building of the Premonstratensian Abbey, while the first day cover depicts the 1956 memorial of Csorna. Győr is the regional centre of Győr-Moson-Sopron county. It is a significant economic, cultural, university and sports centre, one of Hungary’s most dynamically developing towns. The stamp shows the City Hall, and Győr Castle is featured on the first day cover. Nagyatád is in Somogy county. It was founded during the Conquest of Hungary, but finds show that the area was inhabited in prehistoric times as well. The stamp shows the town’s sports hall, and the first day cover has a picture of a statue of the statesman Lajos Kossuth and the former building of the Éltes Mátyás Primary School. The design of the postmarks uses a stylised version of the arms of each of the towns.
